"The music of this setting was printed with the words of verses 2-4 on p. 164. The setting is headed 'A Carol, or Redemption the Wonder of Angels. 1749 A 4 Voc.'. ''Hymn Tune Index'' tune number 1849. The text is one of three carols attributed in ''New Church Melody'' to 'a Gentleman unknown', who sent the texts to Knapp and requested that he set them to music: the other two are The Eternal speaks, all heaven attends (dated 1750) and ''O sight of anguish, view it near'' (dated 1751)."
