"The text of this madrigal comes from the sixth of the intermedii telling the story af Cupid and Psyche, which were performed, together with the comedy „La Cofanaria“ by Francesco d‘Ambra, at the wedding of Francesco de' Medici and Johanna von Österreich, daughter of the emperor Ferdinand I., in Florence in 1565. There the text was sung by Psyche to music by Alessandro Striggio."
