"This praises Alessandro Farnesse (1545-1592), Duke of Parma, Piacenza and Castro, and Philip II of Spain's principle general. He was the dedicatee of Ingegneri's ''Primo libro a sei voci.'' The author is unknown, but the fact it uses the informal second person singular pronouns and verb forms, instead of either the voi/vi/vostro formal, or the Lei formal of a vassal to a liege (the surviving formal in modern Italian), leads me to speculate the author was very high-ranking."
