What sounds are those that thrill my soul, Sweet accents low and tender: Hear'st thou not my soul as floating by, What can such sounds engender? O! list my soul, I pray thee now, And tell me from whence come those pleading tones? It is thy Saviour calling thee, 'Tis not the night-winds sighing. 'Tis not the ev'ning's zephyrs light, As past the pale moon flying; Ah no! it is thy Saviour softly calling: We are alone! no one near; no! no! Bend low, and list to the voice that Angels know; O Saviour! do mine ear incline To hear thy heav'nly accents: "Come unto me," In melody divine, "Ye that labor and are heavy laden, And I will give you, give you rest. Take my yoke, and learn of me; For I am meek And lowly in heart!" Ah! those words divine! "And ye shall find rest to your soul. Come unto me," melody divine; "My yoke is easy;" Ah: weary one! "My burden light." O Saviour! thy voice I hear, Thy pleading tone! Come weary one." O Lord I come.
