"The Corona dei Mesi (Circle of the Months) is a cycle of 12 sonnets on the 12 months of the year by the 13th century Italian poet Folgòre da San Gimignano (pseudonym of Giacomo di Michele), ca. 1280 - ca.1330. Only a few works of his have survived, of which this cycle is the best known. Given the twelve months, it is obvious to do something with the twelve tones of the octave. I have chosen to arrange the keys successively from C one semitone higher, alternating major and minor. So it has not become a strict succession of the circle of fifths. The parts connect to each other on a quarterly basis. In principle, each piece ends in the key of the next movement, or leads to it musically. The documents are therefore preferably coupled on a quarterly basis. In addition, there is an alternation between 4-part mixed choir, 3-part women and men's choir and 6-part mixed choir. The last part starts in B and ends again in C, completing the “Corona”."

*Di gennaio (in C) I’ doto voi, nel mese de gennaio, corte con fòchi di salette accese, camer’e letta d’ogni bello arnese, lenzuol’ de seta e copertoi di vaio, tregèa, confetti e mescere arazzaio, vestiti di doagio e di rascese: e ’n questo modo star a le defese, mova scirocco, garbino e rovaio. Uscir di fòr alcuna volta il giorno, gittando de la neve bella e bianca a le donzelle che staran da torno; e quando fosse la compagna stanca, a questa corte faciase retorno: e si riposi la brigata franca. *Di febbraio (in cis) E de febbrai’ vi dono bella caccia, di cervi, di cavrioli e di cinghiari, corte gonnelle, e grossi calzari, e compagnia che ve deletti e piaccia; can da guinzagli e segugi da traccia, e le borse fornite di danari, ad onta degli scarsi e degli avari, o di chi ’n questo vi dà briga e ‘mpaccia.
