"The Magnificat is the culmination of the liturgical office of Vespers, and in the Roman rites is always preceded and followed by the antiphon proper to that day or season. The antiphon used here is for the Saturday before the 3rd Sunday of Lent, and is taken from the Monastic Office. Though they are uncommon, any Mode 3 Magnificat antiphon could be substituted."
