"A compilation of motets for five equal voices, purportedly by "the best and various authors"; however, none of the composers are specified in the original edition by Scotto. Because of the subject of many of the texts and suitability of the arrangements for a women's choir, it has been theorized that some, many, or all of the works are by Leonora d'Este. Because she was a woman, a nun, and of noble birth, she was unlikely to have claimed or been given credit for them. A second edition of this book was printed in 1549 by Antonio Gardano, who substituted some works by other composers and identified one of the original compositions as by Dominique Phinot."
