"In late 1815 or early 1816, ''Johannes Daniel Falk'' wrote the German text ''O du fröhliche'' that became a popular Christmas carol, to the melody of the Catholic hymn ''O Sanctissima (Traditional)''. It was first published in the ''Gesellschaft der Freunde in der Noth'' in 1817. The lyrics commonly sung today, reflect additional verses added in 1826 by Heinrich Holzchuher."
