"This publication begins with the seven Penitential Psalms. Each is set with verses of the psalm, mostly for 5 voice choir (SATTB); but some verses have a reduced number of voices (from 2 to 4). Each psalm is ended by a Doxology, where the Sicut erat in principio is for 6 voices (SSATTB). These seven psalms are tonally organised: the first Penitential Psalm is in Mode 1, the second in Mode 2, etc. At the end of the collection there is an 8th motet in Mode 8, comprising Psalms 148 and 150; unlike the seven penitential psalms the divisions are not by individual verses: parts 1 (Ps. 148:1-6) & 2 (Ps. 148:7-11) are for 5 voices SATTB; part 3 (ps 148:12-14 & Ps. 150:1) for 3 voices SAT, the last part (Ps. 150:2-6) for 6 voices SSATTB."
