Stephen first after Christ for God's word his blood spent, cruelly to death stoned by false accusements, yielding his soul to God, praying him to forgive his enemies' malice, blind ignorance and misbelief; not regarding his own grievous torments present, but their punishments to come, which never should relent; and for his constant faith and fervent charity from earth saw in heaven Christ his glorious majesty.
