There flew an ancient beetle, Around the flow'rs one morning, And many a sweet one scorning, He chose the fairest bloom. Said He, all golden glitt'ring: "Tho'on the earth I scramble, On wing I far can ramble, So love me sweet and come." Then said the blushing flower: "The butterflies are prettier, And gayer, too, and wittier, So pray you, now be dumb!" The saw the ancient beetle, Young butterfly come dancing, To woo the flow'r entrancing: His face grew very glum!
